The Trojan

"Clark, a man woken up from stasis while aboard The Trojan, finds himself in a ship that seems to be abandoned. Alone and with only a single warning from the vessel's doctor, Clark must escape The Trojan in the last remaining escape pod on the ship."

The Trojan was created in Unreal Engine 5 by two devs; Emma Callahan and Aidan Molina.

Design work was completed jointly. I created the "why" behind the actions of the player and wrote the mystery of the Trojan. I also wrote the data entries that the player can find throughout the map.

In addition to writing and design, I sourced all art assets present in the game though none are original creations. Finally, I designed the level that the game takes place on as well as determining pacing.

While creating the backstory and worldbuilding behind the Trojan, I was inspired by real world events where company greed directly caused by harm of everyday people. It's a theme not uncommon in the sci-fi and cyberpunk genres, but it was an idea I had not explored creatively before.

While there are no NPCs in the game, I still wrote out small details about the occupants of the ship while I was mapping out the "mystery" that the player uncovers. I found that this was extremely helpful when I was writing the data entries. Characters already had personalities and goals and so knowing what to write from the Doctor's perspective came easily. I also felt that it gave the Trojan's backstory more depth and gave a better impression of events that unfolded before the player arrived.
